Possibility of more content

I have realized that my blog here has gone greatly untouched this weekend but breaking my laptop, sketchy internet connection, and general laziness added up to fewer and fewer posts. I wish that I was still on the travel in many ways although I do have to admit to enjoying my time near home. The section of time from the time I returned to from England to what is now April has been spent relaxing and doing some minimal amounts of work. That said here is what I am looking into now...

I realize that I am going to have to actually stash a few more dollars into my bank account to actually afford the vagabond lifestyle that I have grown to love so I am currently mowing grass and doing yard-work to make a few extra bucks. Along with the yard-work I hope to be working for the US Census during the months of May and June. I am sure it will be odd to be back to work (granted I did work for 2 weeks this past winter at a pizza place.... not fun).

Other than that I am planning my escape from the country again. I doubt I ever mentioned this in the past because it was in the works but I had a job lined up for February of this year to Teach English in South Korea, but that fell through at the very last second so now I am looking for more work abroad. I have started dropping applications to South America and spending some time boning up on my Spanish repertoire.

Hopefully I can try and post some of my adventures around here to regain my knack for blogging and get on the road to somewhere with "international" flavor by July.

That said, wish me luck and thanks for reading.

Packing my life up... Leaving the UK

On July 31st I officially move out of my flat in Birmingham and leave the country on a European tour before ultimately (if all goes to plan) ending up back in the USA sometime in September.

I have to consolidate everything between my 2 bags and leave one here while I travel and pick it up on my way back to the US.

Now I just need some scales to make certain I don't exceed the weight limits on the way home (I exceeded them on the way here but managed to sneak it in free of charge).

Amy is in on the pack as well seeing as how the lease is up so it will be a busy week or so here in Birmingham.

Fixing my sleep schedule

With a big weekend ahead of me and a new adventure starting next Wednesday to Eastern Europe I am now attempting to fix my sleep schedule. It has been my recent habit to fall asleep around 4 or 5 in the morning and wake around 1. This will not work if I move ahead a couple of hours in my travels because then I will become entirely nocturnal. So, to remedy this I plan to stay up all night and into tomorrow.

Wish me luck because it could be a long night.

To try and get a feel for Milan I went for a walk (despite the constant rain) down to Duomo. It is this massive Catholic Church that seats basically somewhere under a billion. Granted it is never full of Catholics. Here is a shot of me outside the church

Inside the ceilings are so high there appears to be clouds forming up above.
Here is another shot of insider as the service began. These pictures were not supposed to be taken, but I didn't use flash so I don't feel bad about them.

Hostel Diablo - Milan Italy

OK so first of all.... Don't stay here. I booked online 2 weeks ago only to arrive and find out that they don't even have large dorms any more. I did however get a "deal" that entailed instead of paying 8 Euros I get to pay 20 instead of the 33 they want for the bed. Granted I was exhausted when I made it to Milan otherwise I would not be here now.

I did manage to talk them down to 18 and change my stay to 1 night instead of 4.... looks like I might be in Rome tomorrow....

Leaving Luxembourg

Here are some parting shots of Luxembourg. I am too exhausted at the moment to type anything more about it because I stayed up all night until my bus at 2 in the morning and my flight at 6:30 from Germany...

Napoleon in the making

With my new status in England I am looking to conquer Europe one or many countries at a time. I find myself now planning the next leg. The schedule as of now consists of Ireland for St. Patty's, then flying to Switzerland with a drive to France for snowboarding at Mont Blanc, back to Switzerland and then potentially hopping on and off buses through a few countries.

Hopefully by the time I leave here half of these have been infected by my presence.
