I AM WALKING AGAIN (VIDEO)

After 9 weeks of hobbling around on crutches after colliding with a tree out in Colorado I am now back in (limited) action. I have gained my Docs approval to start walking around and using my leg.

One more round of X-rays (Time number 5)

Waiting for some good news

Waiting can also be educational...

The spur coming up from the lower bone is what re-attached to my leg and is now hopefully connected to the bone and a healthy ACL.

This is my cheesy inspirational video.

50% Walking

So I went to the Doc today for my appointment and got X-ray set number 4.

I am refusing to chop the beard until I can walk... or until it bugs me beyond belief (which it is doing)

This is the video of the doc giving me the news and the rest of my day

I did get a cheap membership to another gym in town to use the in-pool treadmill. Hopefully I will have it to myself like I did today (I ripped this pic off their website)

All in all a pretty good day, should be walking in 2 weeks or so (if I am lucky)

Doc Visit Number 3 (forgot the camera)

Here is the news from the doc that I gathered the other day.

1. I broke my leg really badly (so bad in fact that I was told that they had never seen this type of break in an adult in regards to treatment)

2. I am a medical freak (Basically the bone shattered in every direction like a pane of glass, but in the way that it shatters without actually coming apart) The bone remained aligned despite the heavy trauma so I am healing on my own from something that normally requires hours of surgery and a lot of plates and screws.

3. There is a good chance that my ACL tore a piece of my bone away in the impact so that I might have an ACL in good shape once this is all over.

4. From the sounds of it, I am a lucky man.

Doctor Visit

Officially 3 weeks from the hour that I broke my leg I had another doc appointment. It started out with some X-rays. Luckily I had the new official jonnywalkeradventures photographer on hand to document the fun (AKA my mother).

This is me lounging for my pics

Either they were protecting me from the x-rays or they were just anticipating that things might get crazy.

Glamour shot pose for my final x-ray. (notice the sweat. It is hard crutching around in the sun).

Once the x-rays were looked at they readjusted my brace so that it wouldn't stab me anymore.

I still lack a kneecap on my right leg.

The news this time was good in that I was told that everything is still aligned properly. I should start physical therapy in two more weeks. The other news that I got is that the break goes in and then up. It goes all the way into my knee. Normally it would be a rather quick surgery to repair it except for the fact that my break splinters into multiple ones all ending up in my knee. I was told that it would take multiple plates and screws if I went the surgery route. Since I am young it has been decided that everything should be done to let it heal naturally and hopefully avoid the surgery. Needless to say I must have hit it pretty hard. (It is great when a doc actually shows a few of his friends your x-rays before he even talks to you about them. That means you are a unique individual.)

The Doc Appointment in the Burg - Warning Graphic Images

SO I finally saw a doctor that did more than just glimpse at my X-rays. The one out West told me that I would probably need surgery and may need months before I could walk again so I was pretty intimidated to go get checked out.

The wait wasn't too long

When I got in the back I had to strike a sexy pose.

Then I chose to sick with this one. Really the thumbs up came after the doc told me that I had an odd break pattern but that my bones were very strong because it should have shattered it. He also said that there was a possibility that I would start physical therapy in 3 weeks with no surgery.

Then it was time to change my splint over to a brace. When they unwrapped it the stench was epic. Try and imagine while looking at the next image.

The nurse actually went and got the doc again to look at it a second time. I really just think the smell shocked her. The next pic is where the blood pooled in my leg in a pattern left by the bandages.

This is just a great image. My mom took this one.

After it was cleaned up it looked a lot better.

After it was re-bandaged it didn't look bad at all except for the yellow color and a little bruising.

My mother stood by the whole time... I think the smell will haunt her dreams for a while.

I now have a new brace that allows me a whole 20 degrees of movement through my knee, since the doc believes that my ACL might still be in one piece. YAAAY

So it appears that I will be kicking it around Lewisburg for a while so if you feel like driving me places just let me know. It is kinda hard to push the gas with a non-weight bearing leg. All in all a good day at the docs office. I got some new drugs, a new brace, and some good news. Oh yeah, sorry for the graphic images but that is what was going on with my life. All the pics should be up on the photobucket within the next day or so.
